Prisme #6

Argentique du futur

FESTIVAL STATEMENT

PRISME #6 Argentique du futur – rises from the depths of winter, animated for this new edition by the desire to delve into what is imperceptible, to engage in osmosis with the landscape and the claim for a shift in paradigm regarding our relationship with non-human existence. Dedicated to singular and contemporary analog film creation, Mire’s festival is once again committed to showcasing an array of forms of cinema wether exhibited, expanded, performative or defying traditional time. In order to fulfill this commitment, PRISME #6 will wander through a variety of locations in Nantes, Saint-Nazaire and La Roche-sur-Yon always considering different modes and contexts of diffusion. It is through a base of contributions of an international network of artist-run filmlabs that Mire’s team has collectively composed this program. With a constant attention brought to gender equality, our artistic choices have brought us this year to a high-wire and heterogenous selection where the balance tips on the feminine side.

All throughout this teeming program, will be portrayed by waves the idea of a capacity of the cinematic apparatus to reveal vitality and to take part in cosmological heterogeneity. In this manner, the works exhibited at the Blockhaus embody the manifestation of creative collaboration between artists and natural elements while the selection of recent films and performances are poetically studded with eco-political preoccupations, emblematic of our times. As an echo to these contemporary considerations, emerging straight out of the 70’s, the legendary La Région Centrale disrupts through a powerful sensory experience our relationship to immensity. In the era of an environmental crisis whose manifestations are overflowing from all parts, the light at the end of the tunnel seems to shine from the renewal of our gaze.

PRISME 6 is part of the european cooperative project SPECTRAL encouraging the creation of Expanded Cinematic Art : live cinematic art envisioned in an open spectrum of possibilities.

The high point of PRISME #6 will take place in Nantes from the 6th to the 10th of December 2023 in 4 different locations : at the Galerie K-haus in the historical Blockhaus DY10, at the Macadam nightclub, the artist-run space Pol_n, and the  Cinématographe movie theater.

PRISME #6 will then continue on the 11th of december 2023 in Saint-Nazaire at the Cinéma Jacques Tati and on the 15th of december 2023 in La Roche-sur-Yon at the Cinéma Le Concorde. The finale of the festival will take place on the 7th of january 2024 back in Nantes during the closing screening event of the festival’s exhibit at the Blockhaus DY10.
