PRISME #7

Argentique du futur

STATEMENT

Luminous, magnetic, electric, chromatic, prisme #7 – argentique du futur — will be spectral* !

For its 7th edition, prisme celebrates the culmination of the european project for artistic cooperation SPECTRAL which started in 2022. The festival, dedicated to the moving image, analog and experimental, will this year be composed from a variety of crossed perspectives coming from all 6 artist-run film labs involved in this collective adventure.

Orchestrated by Mire, with the intention to discover and exchange around artistic affinities, the program has been put together from suggestions of our partners based in Porto, Rotterdam, Barcelone, Berlin and Riga  **, each of them drawing from their respective repertoires in search of cult films but also contemporary analog works, reflection of the unfailing vitality of this artistic network.

The end result of this collective enterprise is a rich and abundant program, going from Super 8 to 35mm and representative of the cultural diversity as well as the universal references of experimental film. Cult films whose influence continue to hover over young generations – virtuose figures such as Takashi Ito or the precursors of the Schmelzdahin collective – will stand along brand new creations fresh out of the SPECTRAL residencies, with the double desire to transmit an experimental culture and to support emerging and promising artists.

It is thus with an unconcealed inclination for mixing genres that the festival’s team has taken care of blurring the lines, creating encounters between purely formal works (drowned in pure color, variations on a line, explorations of the physical properties of film) with more documentary and narrative objects in which the underlying political dimension is tangible. An invitation to immerge in the american West coast’s underground, to scrape against punk flamboyance and corrosive feminism, to dive into metaphysical meanders and to roam about portuguese anarchist communities to asian megalopoles.

With the same affirmed will to entwine linear films and musical, sculptural, live forms in interaction with the architectural identities of the different venues, whether they be in Nantes, Saint-Nazaire or La Roche-sur-Yon, this year’s prisme unfolds all nuances of the spectre.

* the SPECTRAL project (2022- 2025) encourages the creation of Expanded Cinematic Art : a live form of cinematography envisioned in an open spectrum of possibilities.
** A proposal from Baltic Analog Lab (Riga, Lettonie), Craterlab ( Barcelone, Espagne), Filmwerkplaats ( Rotterdam, Pays-Bas), LaborBerlin (Allemagne), LAIA (Porto, Portugal)
