A look back on Petra Graf & James Edmonds’s “en route and in between” wandering performance

Résidence SPECTRAL #2 x Le P9 - September 2024 - Saint-Nazaire

The accomplishment of a month’s work at the end of the Wandering Residency #2, organized by Mire in collaboration with the artist-run space Le P9 in the context of the european project SPECTRAL – the 16mm nocturnal walk imagined by Petra Graf & James Edmonds en route and in between took place on the 27 of September 2024 in the streets of Saint-Nazaire after nightfall.

en route and in between

For this end of residency event,  Petra Graf and James Edmonds led the public on a short cinematic walking tour of the harbor surroundings of Saint Nazaire. Using 16mm projections of film material they have both shot and developed here on their residency, as well as composed and recorded sounds, found objects and materials, the duo illuminated various corners of the area with their collected filmic impressions. Like visual haïkus these films emerge from and interact with the fabric of the city at night, appearing at various intervals en route almost like a series of dreams and culminating in a performative installation in the den of the submarine base.

During this residency, Graf and Edmonds were able to explore and experiment with the different tools developed during the SPECTRAL creative research seminar led by Mire between 2023 and 2024 : autonomous and portable 16mm projector for loops, the multi-channel portable sound system baptized the Octoploc as well as a 2. 0 magic lantern.
