The outcome of a month-long residency, organized by in Mire in collaboration with Lolab in the context of the european project SPECTRAL, Ana Edwards and Francisco Rodriguez Teare’s Colorful Procession took place on July 5th 2024 during the opening night of M.I.A.M ! #4 organized by Lolab.
After a feverish game of revisited Bingo, the audience was invited to take part in a cinematic parade, analog and mobile, rooted as much in fairground and experimental film history than in religious and carnavalesque processions. Three films, three reels, three colors which mended into one upon arrival…
Exploring the construction of affective cartography through the production of a trichromatic films, the artists explored, camera and mic in hand, the Breil neighbourhood and its surroundings meeting and talking with locals and encountering sceneries in order to harvest memories, anecdotes, thoughts and observations. Using the modified 16mm projectors and portable sound system developed during the Wandering Sounds and Images research seminar organized by Mire between February 2023 and February 2024, the performance project also initiated the construction of a mobile structure for 16mm parade, able to carry a screen and a projector, respecting the projection distance.
In the steps of popular chilean culture which is their own, the artists summon here notions of tradition, encounters, community and the living memory of places and people through the prism of a collective experience, as colorful as joyful !
