Three contemporary film work programmes carefully composed from the rich corpus of some 300 works received in response to a call for submissions launched within the international network of artist-run film labs, filmlabs.org. The L.A.D.s provide an opportunity to take the pulse of a creative scene that remains as vibrant as ever.

PROGRAMME
A cinematic device for contemplating – with both acuity and wonder – the mechanisms of image formation. Impressions from a residency in Saint-Nazaire, carefully gathered and beautifully unfold. Two films with infinitely subtle light palettes, inviting viewers to delight in the delicacies of slowness.

“ELLIPTIC is a filmwork that considers an image as reflecting light. It looks at how brightly a beam of light is deflected as it hits an edge and transforms the image as it enters a lens. A delicately slow focus shift carries this movement along the cone of the visual field into a certain depth, and back again.”
Forming en Route, Petra Graf & James Edmonds – FR / DE – Mire, P9, Andec – 2025 – 16mm > digital 35’
“Filmed while on a residency organised by artist run film lab MIRE, Nantes at the estuary town of Saint-Nazaire. As we slowly gathered our impressions, becoming familiar with a new place, developing rolls at the lab along the way, we tried to capture the spirit of the spaces we encountered. The coastal light, the industrial harbor atmosphere and postwar architecture, all framing our view and leading us through our daily work.”
