Screening & Performances

Programme de films “Von Berlin nach Saint-Nazaire”

Among the Eucalyptuses de Robert Beavers
2017 / 16mm / 4′
“Late afternoon quiet and a silent figure seated on a bench in Nafplion; the historic figures of Kolokotronis and Kapodistrias; plus the old factories and machinery, warehouses and train lines that are part of a Piraeus, now disappearing.”
.
Fahrt auf dem Luctor de Helga Fanderl
1999 / 16mm / 8′
.
Configurations de James Edmonds
2021 / 16mm / 8′
“The little personal myths and structures we set up to aid the survival of the psyche in times of low harvest. Finding subtle points of reference in subject and camera movement, in the landscape, its details and the traditions of the season, I attempt to connect the outside with the embodied camera and the inward gesture of the brushmark.”
.
Signals (in progress) de Petra Graf
16mm / 2′
.
Neubrandenburg de Ute Aurand
1995 / 16mm / 5′
One day in Neubrandenburg, filmed in a small city 130km north of Berlin in September 1995.
Commissioned by Filmfest Neubrandenburg, thanks to Eckhard Holzmann.
.
Room Window Sea Sky de Peter Todd
2014 / 16mm / 3′
“When to pick up the camera, when to look through the viewfinder, when to decide to press the button to film. Being in the moment of filming, deciding when to let go of the button, and the film to stop in the camera, waiting for the next time, for the decision or the thought to film. Thinking with the camera. Winding the clockwork spring, to be ready. And always aware of being somewhere in the timeline of the 100ft of 16mm film. Like passing through a wood, or over a lake. Aware of a film emerging. And all of life lived until this time. Intuition. Nothing can be erased; the choices made are those recorded at the time. It cannot be edited, and on reflection formed anew. Not the start of something, but complete in itself at the very moment of making. There is something humbling about working in this way. The minimum needed.Filmed in a room overlooking the sea on a 100ft roll of 16mm film negative with a handheld clockwork Bolex camera. The aperture set with light readings from a separate light meter. A single roll of film. The images in the order filmed.”
.
A Return de James Edmonds
2018 / 16mm / 6′
“To return again. To re-align is the object of these visits, perhaps. Geography of origin becoming catalyst for an inner re-alignment with the secret, private, unspoken work of one’s being. Peering into layers, sliding planes of windows and time, the fragmentary gesture of the dance.
A series of rapid contrasts, a synthesis of elemental and everyday experience.
Structures shift and intermingle, two worlds become one.”
.
The Narrow Path of Light (in progress) de JEPG
Super 8 / 6′
